Today we’re watching as Hal Steenson does a study on the discernment of spirits. He talks about his past experiences in dealing with “demons” and the craze of deliverance ministries that went off the deep end in the 1970s. The Bible does tell us to test the spirits, but also that the discernment of spirits is a gift set apart by the Holy Spirit. So get out your notepads and take some notes on this one, it’s a good one!

One Response to “The Discernment of Spirits”

  1. Greetings Michael!

Nice blog you have here! I read your ‘about’ and you’re experience is about like mine. BTW, we’re almost neighbors — I’m about 35 miles south of you, on some country land about 10 miles SSW of Brownsboro.

I like Hal and Mollie a lot, but you know, he preaches about the errors in neopentecostalism which all we “been there, done that” already know, but I wish he’d delve into the central issue, that being (IMO) that neopente-charismatics’ major error is that of substituting the excitation of emotions for the moving of the Spirit, or what Finney called the “Ignis Fatuus” (foolish fire) effect, which does nothing to benefit neither the believer nor the Kingdom of God.

The last AoG church I attended (about 5yr ago) demanded I LEAVE when I quietly took a stand for the Sabbath — i.e., “You don’t belong here!” and I had to agree, I didn’t…

Having the gift of Discernment of Spirits (which I have had for 14 years) isn’t what most people think. It’s a burden that calls one to intercession.. One perceives devils at work in the lives of (seemingly) the most delightful people, and how does one confront such? One doesn’t. One interceeds, trusting His Spirit to rectify matters. And that, without any obvious resolution nor visable reward. One plants seeds of spiritual power, then moves along to the next burden.. The religious demons are the worst! and the most loved by their hosts.

Anyhow, feel free to contact, I’m always hungry for fellowship with true believers. kv5r@kv5r.com
