Dan Brown’s book, The Da Vinci Code, has swept readers away into a fictional account of the history of Christianity. Unfortunately for many people, this book is being viewed with far too much emphasis on the “accuracy” of it’s claims (much like Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ move), instead of being viewed as plain fiction. As the film version is getting ready to be released, I thought I would do a little research regarding the book and it’s claims, etc. However, while doing my research I found a few other items of interest.

Ever wander down the bunny trail? Where here’s how my bunny trail went. I get a Google Alert each day for news articles pertaining to several keywords, one of which is ‘Seventh-day Adventist”. During my review of the report yesterday, I ran across an article about a televangelist who is using the Da Vinci Code to his advantage. Instead of rebutting the fiction from the code for free (or a nominal cost, if any), he stands to make a great deal from his material! You can see the original article from the Cincinnati Post here:

Minister Makes Hay on ‘Code’ Rebuttal

While the article was fascinating, you will see when reading it why it triggered the alert for the keyword “Seventh-day Adventist”. So, after seeing the link, I was off to visit Michael Scheifler’s website. What I found was very interesting.

The Bible Light website provides a literal plethora of information and links. If there are any Adventist prophecy studies online that he doesn’t link to, I would be surprised. There are many interesting articles as well. The site appears to be partly for evangelism and partly for ministering to the saints, although in his disclaimer it is a purely “personal” website. I think what that really means is that it is non-commercial.

In one of the reports that I read from the “what’s new” section, I found some very interesting rebuttal to some of Dr. Samuele Bacchiocchi’s newsletter information. While I have always read his material with great admiration for his work, I have always been a bit cautious regarding his criticisms of the Adventist church and the Spirit of Prophecy. If you are curious about what issues he takes a look at, you can visit his site here.

Anyway, that’s how my rabbit trail progressed. I did find some information on the Da Vinci Code, and I found some interesting information on Seventh-day Adventists! But don’t worry, my research doesn’t stop there. I will be posting more info on Dan Brown’s book and the upcoming Da Vinci Code movie in the days to come, leading up to the release of the movie.
