Today we’re watching as Hal Steenson does a study on the discernment of spirits. He talks about his past experiences in dealing with “demons” and the craze of deliverance ministries that went off the deep end in the 1970s. The Bible does tell us to test the spirits, but also that the discernment of spirits is a gift set apart by the Holy Spirit. So get out your notepads and take some notes on this one, it’s a good one!

Well, it was bound to happen. I’ve noticed over the past few years that we as Adventists tend to be a bit slow in adopting new Internet technologies. This isn’t too surprising, even though we paved the way with religious radio and television broadcasts. Well, today the Adventist church is entering into the online social network foray with their own official entry: SDALink. SDALinks was announced today in conjunction with the retirement of Lonnie Melashanko from the Voice of Prophecy. The reason for the connection? Users of SDALink can join a group on the site that is sending farewell videos to Lonnie Melashanko, some of which will be played during his farewell reception at the Adventist Media Center on September 11, 2008.

At first glance the site seems different, but that’s probably just because I’m used to the MySpace and FaceBook platforms. I’ve already signed up and really want to give this site a chance! Care to join me?

See My Profile Here and Become my Friend on SDALink!

PS - If my profile looks a little bare, know that I will be adding more to it over the weekend as time permits. ;-)

Well, now I’ve seen it all. Usually I get someone from Nigeria who wants me to help them transfer millions of dollars into the U.S. or I’ve won the U.K. lottery. Today I got an email supposedly from 3ABN.org with the subject line ” “the church” … what happened? ” Well obviously that got my attention! I opened it up and started reading, only to discover very quickly that I had been duped. I didn’t even bother to read the rest of the message. Why? Because impersonating someone else in order to gain readership isn’t only wrong ethically, it’s wrong morally - it breaks the ninth commandment. Deception is never acceptable, even if it means more people will read your message. So if you get this e-mail today, please know that it isn’t from the real 3ABN.org, but from IP address 66.111.4.25, which originates in New York city.

Note to the spammers: next time, if you really want me to read your e-mail, be honest and tell me who you are. ;-)

As you probably know if you’ve been reading my blog much, I am on FaceBook as well as several other social networks. Today I received an invitation to join a group called ‘The Great Controversy Readathon‘. Sounds interesting, right? So I went on over to check it out…

Turns out there are over 1,300 members already signed up to participate! So what’s the plan? Turns out they actually just kicked off (thank goodness, because I hate being behind!) and are planning on reading one chapter a week and discussing on the discussion boards on FaceBook and on the main website. 42 chapters, 42 weeks … ought to be a good study.

So, if you haven’t read The Great Controversy, or if it’s been a while and it’s just gathering dust on your bookshelf, then I want to challenge you to dust it off and take it down and participate with me in this group online study. There will be much to gain from a study of the path of the faithful from Christ’s day all the way down to ours. The website even has links to pdf files and audio books (both free and paid), so there’s no excuse ;-).

Visit the links above and let’s get started. While you’re at it, if you haven’t joined me on these social networks, you should do that as well:
